Grab a Bite
Just two blocks down at Hosea and 2nd, Poor Hendrix is a hopping, casual neighborhood bar and restaurant named for their mascot rescue dog Hendrix. Here you’ll find small plates, classic dishes and plenty of tasty libations in a quaint, old building bursting with charm. Next door, Mix’d up Burgers is a funky burger joint with creative patties, fries and drinks. Across the street, The Greater Good Barbecue dishes up mouthwatering baby back ribs, smoked chicken, pulled pork and more that locals want to keep as their own little secret. The doors are also almost open at Mary Hoopa’s House of Fried Chicken and Oysters from Chef Robert Phalen of Inman Park’s One-Eared Stag.
Tee Off
Just a 10-minute walk the other side of Memorial Drive, the East Lake and Charlie Yates golf courses provide opportunities to hit a few balls as well as innovative programs for kids. East Lake is also home to the TOUR Championship PGA event each fall where the world’s best golfers tee off to win the end of season crown.
Study Up
If you wind up sending the kids to Drew Charter, you can walk them to school before your coffee gets cold. High-performing Drew serves students Pre-k through 12th grade with an innovative project-based learning approach and STEAM curriculum.
Break a Sweat
And if you’re looking for a local workout, the East Lake Family YMCA is just a block away offering a gym, exercise classes, indoor and outdoor pools, and a wide variety of programs for families and kids. They’ve also got child care and a large cardio and weight lifting facility.
Shop Around
At the same corner of Hosea and 2nd, plans are underway for boutique retail, but for now, you’re only a few blocks from an array of fun, local shops at Kirkwood. There’s a grocery (Publix) just down the street at Glenwood and 2nd and all the shops of Oakhurst Village are easily accessible by bike.
