To add depth and enhance your home’s interior design, try incorporating interesting uses of color and texture throughout your home. Edward Andrews Homes’ Design Director Debbie Naftel offers advice on taking your interiors to the next level and creating a home that inspires the senses.

Take a room from boring to breathtaking with these colorful tips and tricks:

  1. If you prefer neutral colors throughout the home, try pairing Sherwin Williams’ “colonnade gray” or “accessible beige” with a pure white trim to add definition in a space.
  2. Wallpaper is making a comeback; add interest in an office or a baby’s nursery by wallpapering an accent wall.
  3. Play with bold colors in a child’s bedroom or playroom through patterned pillows, whimsical stripes and vibrant chevrons.
  4. If you’re not sure where to start with color, try adding it to a smaller space like a power room.
  5. While we recommend using softer paint hues in master bathrooms, such as Sherwin Williams’ “passive”, you can add color into this space with linens and accessories.

Incorporating texture may seem daunting but can be created inseveral simple ways. Naftel offers the following guidelines:

  1. Exposed brick, either on the floor or wall, is a sophisticated and unexpected texture for your interiors.
  2. Work with wood details such as trim, bead board or wainscoting to add definition in a room and elevate the overall look of your home.
  3. Mix and match decorative pillows in herringbone, paisley or geometric patterns.

  4. Sisal rugs, and rugs with natural fibers & all over geometric designs, are classic favorites for neutral floor coverings, while hand-scraped hardwoods provide a distressed look to create a more rustic feel.
  5. Don’t forget the ceiling! This “fifth wall” can define a space; a stained or painted coffered ceiling draws the eye upward, giving the room a more expansive feel. You can enhance the appearance of the coffered ceiling by painting the ceiling the same color as the walls to not overwhelm the space.
