Charles R. Drew Charter School opened in 2000 as the City of Atlanta’s first public charter school. In 2014, Drew expanded its campus to include a new state-of-the-art Junior and Senior Academy that’s just across Memorial Drive from Bixton. Serving more than 1,800 students in Pre-K through 12th grade, Drew represents the cradle-to-college pipeline in the East Lake community and is an integral part of a holistic neighborhood revitalization led by the East Lake Foundation.

Drew is proud to be a mixed-income school, serving families across diverse socioeconomic groups. Drew’s innovative Project-Based Learning approach with an integration of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) curriculum and a strong foundation in literacy helps all students reach their highest potential. In 2017 Drew celebrated its first high school graduating class, an impressive group of more than 80 seniors boasting a 100 percent college acceptance rate and earning more than $5 million in scholarships.

Bixton residents with school-aged children may apply for admission to Drew by completing an online application between February and April each year. Drew utilizes a weighted lottery to increase the likelihood of serving more economically disadvantaged students. Lottery results are posted in mid-May.
