It started one summer on an island off of Seattle with some kids who were bored with the usual summertime activities. Their dads cobbled together what they had– a badminton net, ping pong paddles, an asphalt court, a plastic ball – and invented a new court sport that their whole family could play together. Everyone loved it. Flash forward and pickleball has evolved into a popular sport across the US and Canada and is one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

Here’s how it works:

  • It can be played indoors or outdoors on a badminton sized court that is striped like a tennis court. A court can be built specially for pickleball or a tennis court can be modified for the game.
  • Played with a solid paddle and a plastic ball with holes, players lob the ball back and forth similar to tennis or badminton.
  • Two, three or four players may play.
  • Players wear any comfortable athletic clothing and shoes appropriate for a sport court.
  • The smaller court makes it ideal for all ages and all levels of fitness and a great social activity.
